Letter from the Founder: Embracing Sustainability in Everyday Life

In a world where the effects of our actions on the environment are more evident than ever, I find myself on a personal mission to live a sustainable life. As a woman and a mother of 2, I believe that my choices have the power to shape a better future. From mindful purchases that align with my values, to recycling efforts that make a difference, and conscious food choices that nurture both my well-being and the planet, I am proud to be a part of the movement towards a more sustainable world. These are the small steps, but I believe that big changes start with small actions.

Mindful and Meaningful Purchases

Every time I make a purchase, I see it as an opportunity to make a positive impact. I'm drawn to brands that embrace eco-friendly practices and support fair wages for workers. I prioritize quality over quantity, seeking out products that are made to last and produced with the environment in mind. I have noticed that fast fashion items are cheap, but tend to last just a few washes, when the good quality items last for many years. If you divide the cost per wear, good quality items win with no competition. So it's a win-win situation for you and the planet when you buy long lasting items.
When it comes to clothing trends, I've shifted away from fast fashion trends, instead opting for timeless pieces crafted from sustainable materials. You will not find any synthetics in my closet.

Recycle and Reuse

Recycling isn't just a chore for me – it's a commitment. I make sure to properly sort and recycle my waste, going beyond the basics to include items like batteries and electronics. I make sure that my children follow suit, even though it can be challenging. Sometimes it means grabbing a used plastic bottle from the household trash bin, along with food waste that should have been placed in a designated plastic recycling bin, and asking loudly “Seriously, who did that?”
Single-use plastics have no place in my life; I've embraced reusable alternatives such as my trusty stainless steel water bottle, foldable coffee cups, bamboo straws and a collection of linen cloth bags for shopping. But recycling is just the beginning. I love to get creative and find new uses for items that might otherwise end up in the landfill. Old furniture becomes a canvas for my imagination, and glass jars are reborn as charming storage solutions. It's a satisfying way to give new life to old things.
Additionally, there are small actions in daily life, such as declining paper receipts, catalogs, and coupons, transitioning to energy-efficient LED home lighting, using natural cleaning products, opting for reusable shopping bags, unplugging devices when they are not in use, among others.

Thoughtful Food Choices

My sustainable journey extends to the heart of my home – the kitchen. I'm passionate about the food I eat, and I've learned that my choices can make a significant impact. I support local farmers by choosing organic, locally sourced produce, reducing the carbon footprint of my meals. As food waste is a big problem, I strive to buy food, especially vegetables, in small portions. I make weekly plans for food, but I also do not stick to the plan and make dishes from what has to be used from the refrigerator.
Plant-based eating is my way of aligning my diet with my values. By reducing (still not cutting off) my consumption of animal products, I'm taking a stand against the resource-intensive practices associated with industrial livestock farming. I've discovered the joy of exploring a world of delicious flavors through vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.
And I'm mindful of food waste too. I plan my meals, get creative with leftovers, and compost organic scraps to enrich the soil in my garden.

Energy

Residing in a house, I have solar batteries installed on the roof. These batteries ensure that a substantial portion of the energy I consume at home is both sustainable and renewable.
Each day, I am reminded of the power of nature as sunlight is converted into electricity, lighting up my life while leaving a minimal environmental impact.
As for my car, I still have a gasoline one (not proud of this), but I'm saving for the electric one in the near future. At least I am proud that I have impacted my husband’s choice to upgrade his gasoline jeep to an electric one. As he charges the car at home, the energy comes from solar batteries, creating a harmonious cycle of energy generation and consumption.

Dreams

I do dream big, and I firmly believe that my dreams can become a reality. I have two distinct dreams when it comes to MagicLinen. Firstly, I envision owning a thriving forest of our own, where a tree would be planted for every purchase made. Secondly, I aspire to incorporate solar panels into our production facility. To make this dream a reality, we're already saving for this.

I am proud to be a woman who lives by her values, making mindful purchases, embracing recycling, and choosing foods that nourish both my body and do no harm for the planet. My journey towards sustainability is a personal one, but I know that my actions have the power to inspire others and contribute to a brighter future for all.

I hope that my simple steps towards sustainability can encourage and inspire you too.

Founder and Creative Director,

Vita
