Our Linen Products are Oeko-Tex Certified

Ever wondered just how much of our lives we spend sleeping or trying to get to sleep? Well, if we base it on an average eight hours sleep per night that would mean we are tucked up in bed for one-third of a day. So if you live for 75 years that would be 25 years spent dreaming!

Sleep doesn’t always come easy though, so we end up reading books, taking relaxing baths or occasionally get distracted by our phones. Here at MagicLinen we sleep better knowing that our linen textiles for home and clothing are manufactured in a mindful way, which is better for the planet and you.

We have ensured that all of our products follow strict manufacturing guidelines and are free from harmful chemicals. So when you do end up falling asleep, you can rest easy knowing you have the best quality material against your skin.

What is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100?

The Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide independent testing and certification system, testing products for harmful substances during all stages of the manufacturing process. During the testing phase, it is not only the fabrics themselves that get tested but also accessories.

So when we say our linen bedding is Oeko-Tex certified we mean our labels and buttons all adhere to the standard. There are over 100 harmful chemicals that get tested during the screening process and since it started in 1992, Oeko-Tex has become recognized as a global leader in eco-labeling.

What is tested during the process?

Testing takes place for banned substances including those that are harmful but have not yet been regulated. Some of the chemicals that get tested include azo dyes, carcinogenic and allergy-inducing colorants, pesticides for textiles made of natural fibers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons chlorinated phenols, phthalates (softeners), PFOS, PFOA, surfactant wetting agent residues (APEOs) and many more.

It also depends on the intended purpose of a particular textile, the following principle applies the more intensive the skin contact of a textile (and the more sensitive the skin), the stricter the requirements that need to be fulfilled. For example, baby garments will always need to meet more requirements to get certified.

Why is this important to us?

Manufacturing of textiles can be a complicated process, involving various treatments and chemicals which can be harmful to you and then the planet. Ensuring that we do no harm to either is at the top of our list, this is why we chose to be completely transparent and invested in third-party testing. Now you don't just need to take our word for it.
